National Science Day – NIRANTARA-2K26

The Department of Science and Humanities, in association with IIC REC Hulkoti, organized National Science Day – NIRANTARA-2K26 on 28th February 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Seminar Hall of Rural Engineering College, Hulkoti.
The program was presided over by Dr. V. M. Patil, Principal, REC Hulkoti. In his presidential address, he recalled the remarkable achievements of Dr. C. V. Raman and emphasized that National Science Day should not be limited to celebration alone. He encouraged students to develop scientific temper, curiosity, and the habit of questioning to understand facts logically.
The Chief Guest, Shri S. H. Vasan, Retired Biology Lecturer and Rajyotsava Awardee (2023), Government of Karnataka, addressed the gathering. He highlighted the importance of protecting nature for human survival. He expressed concern over the growing use of plastic, which poses a serious threat to sensitive species and disturbs the ecological balance. He urged everyone to take responsibility for tree plantation, soil enrichment, and protection of water bodies.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Netravati Gayakwad, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Laxman Rao Jarkiholi Arts, Commerce and Science College, Gokak, spoke about the challenges faced by Indian scientists due to inadequate research infrastructure and facilities. She pointed out that many talented scientists move to developed countries, where they gain better opportunities and global recognition.
Dr. Sugandha P., Head of the Department of ECE, was also present as Guest of Honour and motivated students to actively participate in scientific activities and innovation.
The program was coordinated by Dr. L. R. Somanagoudar (Coordinator, IIC) and Dr. M. D. Harlapur (Coordinator, IQAC). Mrs. Shilpa Meti, Head of the Department of Science and Humanities, welcomed the gathering. Prof. Aishwarya Goudar anchored the event gracefully.
All the faculty members of the Science and Humanities Department, non-teaching staff, and students actively participated in the event, making it a meaningful and successful celebration.
